                Various Technology Consultant Roles - Water Sector
BACKGROUND
Isle Utilities is a boutique technology & innovation consultancy (established in Oct 2010) with headquarters in the UK. Isle aims to accelerate the commercialisation of new water technologies, and we do this through our Technology Approval Group (TAG) – a unique innovation forum for global water utilities. Due to Isle’s success in the UK, the company has recently established a presence in Australia, and are working with clients in Australia, New Zealand and Southeast Asia.
Isle Utilities is a very unique and dynamic company, and we require a highly motivated self-starters to join the team. Potential candidates should have experience in engineering, R&D, project development, and/or consulting. More specifically, the role will include the day-to-day running of TAG , sourcing new technologies, identifying opportunities for innovation in the water sector and undertaking strategy and due diligence projects.
The technology areas that we mainly concern ourselves with includes technologies related to civil infrastructure, processes, mechanical, electrical and ICA systems in the water industry.
We are welcoming speculative applications for roles involving the end-to-end management and delivery of TAG, taking the lead on commercialisation activities, providing technical and commercial due diligence, managing clients and managing projects. There will also be a business development element to any role on offer, and the successful candidate will be expected to generate and convert new business leads.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Due to rapid growth within the company, we are looking for experienced water industry professionals with a background in engineering consulting, R&D and/or project development. As the company grows, we are constantly on the look-out for individuals that can fill the following types of roles:
Technology consultant
Senior technology consultant
Project manager
General accountabilities for the above roles are listed below. A more specific job description for the above roles can be provided following your initial application, and this will based on your experience.
Technology Approval Group (TAG)
Sourcing new, “step-change” technologies (globally) with applications in water / wastewater through research and pro-active networking
Gathering and eva luating technical and commercial data around each technology
Undertaking research to validate technology claims and gather market intelligence
Producing deliverables for the TAG forum, including the technology “long list”, TAG meeting agendas, organising and attending quarterly TAG meetings, producing minutes and uploading TAG materials onto the online TAG Portal
Technology and Innovation Consulting – Isle has a very unique consulting capability in the water sector, which is providing specialist advice to a diverse range of clients in relation to water technology commercialisation and innovation. Clients will range from water company R&D managers through to venture capital fund managers. Isle’s consulting arm is a dynamic part of the business and will require like-minded individuals to undertake these projects. Accountabilities will include:
Undertaking research to inform the development of market studies, market strategies, business plans or business cases for new technologies
Developing technical and commercial models for projects involving the use of new technologies
Delivering collaborative trials of new technologies
Other accountabilities – Isle Utilities is a small company; therefore in addition to the above accountabilities, you will be expected to support a number of key business activities including the following:
Marketing – support the marketing needs of the company by helping to produce marketing materials, organise networking events and speaking at conferences
Business development – you will not be expected to take the lead on business development activities; however it is expected that from time to time you will be able to identify opportunities for new projects and refer these over to your manager for follow-up. You will also be required to provide assistance in writing proposals.
Travel – the role will be based in Sydney, Australia; however there will be a requirement to travel interstate from time to time to attend conferences, visit clients and/or technology companies
QUALIFICATIONS:
Tertiary qualification in engineering or science
Evidence of continuing professional development would be ideal
EXPERIENCE:
At least 3 years’ water industry experience
A sound technical background in the water sector would be preferable
Client-facing experience is essential
YOU WILL BE:
An excellent communicator – presenting, writing, speaking
A motivated self-starter with the ability to work under your own initiative
An innovator, strategic and creative thinker
Confident in dealing with a variety of client stakeholders and confident in networking
Ideally fluent in an Asian language like Mandarin or Japanese
BASE:
The role is based in Sydney, Australia
We encourage our staff to work from home, travelling when required to meet with clients, team members or technology companies
Interstate or overseas travel will be required from time to time
SALARY:
Depending on experience
Bonus based on performance
