IN the past decade, not one year has gone by when Trudy Hill wasn't pregnant.
Amazingly, the Penrith mother has carried nine children since 2000. The latest addition, Nox, arrived just two months ago - and she hasn't ruled out having more.
"I just fell in love with having kids," she said.
"I love that whole experience of giving birth and having a newborn baby. For me, that's really addictive and that's what keeps me going back and having more."
Ms Hill, 32, her husband Clint, and their brood live a modest, five-bedroom house at South Penrith.
The couple, who are practising Christians, remarkably average seven hours' sleep a night.
Their daily routine involves at least two loads of washing, while family outings require half the children to go with mum and the other half with dad because they're unable to squeeze into one car.
Ms Hill said sickness was a rarity, with each child ill only twice a year.
"People think we're amazing, but we're just normal people doing normal things," she said.
According to latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 310 families in NSW have at least eight children.
Mr Hill, 37, said that even though he would not have it any other way, he became wary of telling people about his growing family by the time his wife fell pregnant with son Zye in 2005.
"We were copping it so much," the fitness-equipment inventor said.
"People became very negative and we started not telling anyone by the fifth. People always think, 'How are you going to afford it?' but it becomes very natural."
Despite the large number of young children, the household is surprisingly well organised in the mornings. Mrs Hill said: "I used to always wing it a bit and think, 'Oh, I can get the kids' clothes out in the morning' but because we have so many now, I can't wing it any more because then we'd be rushing.
"You have to be more organised than you normally would be."
School-aged children Finn, Cruize and Bronte make their own breakfasts and lunches before they help their parents clean up.
The other children then sit down on one of the family's three dining-room tables for breakfast while mum and dad feed the youngest two.Ms Hill said she lowered her stress levels by hitting the gym at least twice a week.
And although she's comfortable stopping at nine children, she is tempted to try for one more child.
"A little part of me says, "Maybe one more'," she said. "Maybe nine months down the track, I might get clucky. Who knows? I've never had the opportunity to get clucky." |
