Cost: FreeOne of the more unusual ways to spend a few hours is taking a tour of the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee. Thousands of hectares of lush pastures, wetlands, lagoons, intertidal areas, rivers, creeks, birds, cows and, oh yes, sewage await you. It's a fascinating insight into those processes which, while usually well out of sight, are crucial to our way of life.The themed tours are:Wildlife & Wetlands;
History & Heritage;
Farm & Fodder; and
Wonders of Western Treatment Plant.Each of the above tours runs for two hours or you can take a shorter one-hour "Hour of Power" tour. The Western Treatment Plant is huge ('about the same size as Phillip Island') so the tours are by bus.
