The North West Rail Link has reached another milestone with the first major building demolition for the project.
Excavators have demolished office buildings above where the new Norwest Station will be located.
Demolition of these vacant office buildings allows this major construction site to be set up as soon as possible.
The station at Norwest will be built underground as part of the 15km of twin tunnels – the longest and deepest rail tunnels ever built in Australia.
The above ground entrance will be integrated into the surrounding area, which includes the Norwest Marketown Shopping Centre, commercial and residential developments and Hillsong Church.
Norwest is one of the fastest growing employment centres in Sydney and is home to the headquarters of major national and international companies like Woolworths, Subaru and medical supply specialists ResMed and B.Braun.
About 15,000 people from across Sydney work at this specialised employment centre and this is expected to grow to 30,000 by 2031.
At street level, the station entrance will be at the intersection of Norwest Boulevard and Brookhollow Ave and opposite the Norwest Marketown Shopping Centre.
Surrounding roads and footpaths will be upgraded to provide access to the station, with the roundabout at Norwest Boulevarde and Brookhollow Ave to be replaced by traffic lights to improve pedestrian and road safety.
The station will have bus shelters, kiss-and-ride waiting areas, a taxi rank and cycling facilities.
The planning process for the North West Rail Link is underway, with ongoing community consultation still taking place and the second Environmental Impact Statement to be released soon for public comment.
Every effort will be made during construction to minimise impacts on local residents and businesses and to keep traffic flowing. |
