传说中的概念终于要实施了，对于西南区的居民将会是很好的消息，未来去city上班工作又会多一种选择的出行方式，就是渡轮 ferry
两年后开通的渡轮服务是途径的主要的海边的站包括：
1. Werribee south的Wyndham Harbour社区，渡轮的站就会位于小区对出的海面码头
这是墨尔本西南区发展的一大豪华海边住宅社区，面对海边的地块光地皮全部都是超过百万的，目前这社区的发展规模比预计的超出了40％，目前这地产项目的工程正不断加紧进行，包括海边的别墅群，公寓，还有商业社区，购物区域，以及娱乐设施，还有设置至少两个大海滩
2. Point Cook的Saltwater Coast社区，渡轮的站就会位于小区对出的海面码头
这是point Cook唯一的一个海边社区，未来的规模是超过Santurary Lake的地产发展项目
3. Williamstown的码头
Williamstown是墨尔本西区的豪宅区，就不介绍了
4. Docklands 的新码头，会位于ANZ大楼或者NAB大楼附近
根据之前的调查，将近1／3的point cook的居民在city上班，1／4的Altona和williamstown的居民也是在city 上班，开设这样的渡轮服务对于他们是很好的便民服务，我记得我去悉尼的时候坐过悉尼的渡轮服务，他们的ferry是从 Parramatta出发 走Parramatta River和 Sydney Harbour，能去到Circular Quay，这样的服务既可以成为悉尼市民上下班的交通方式，又可以成为游客观光的方式，全程才几块钱
未来发展的melbourne ferry的方式也会类似Sydney ferry的，对于point cook在内的墨尔本西南的居民，这个项目是非常好的消息，这个项目真正运行后，point cook的地理位置优势就会真正显现出来，墨尔本的海边社区基本都是比较贵的区域，就是西区的海边也不例外，包括williamstown，这个区的房价都很贵，还有altona的海边，澳洲前总理吉拉德就是住这里，这个区也是比较贵的，现在发展的Werribee south的Wyndham Harbour社区也是比较贵的，300多400多平米面海的地皮也卖过百万，只有Point Cook还处于相对比较便宜的阶段，
这服务开通后有望推高这个区域的房价，因为point cook的人口增长会不断加快，需求会增加
Ferry service from Melbourne's west to Docklands could be running within two years
A FERRY service from Melbourne's west to Docklands could be running within two years as a new development near Werribee is set to almost double in size.
The Wyndham Harbour development will expand to house almost 1400 residents after an amendment was approved by Planning Minister Matthew Guy.
Mr Guy will today announce the marina development will increase by more than 40 per cent, with the majority of residents set to move in within two years.
"Wyndham Harbour is fabulous because it opens up the western side of Port Phillip Bay in a way that has not been done before - it actually provides waterfront accommodation to people wanting to live in Melbourne's western suburbs," Mr Guy said. "That's why the ferry service will be so important for people who are living in that southern Werribee precinct."
The expansion ensures the demand and viability for the ferry service, which Mr Guy is keen to see up and running. "This development, plus a ferry service, would change the dynamic of Melbourne's west.
"Expanding the Wyndham Harbour development will assist in providing a critical mass of population to make a commuter ferry service from Werribee to the city fully sustainable."
It is believed the final step needed to secure the service was in managing the ferries around the ships in the Port of Melbourne.
When running, it is expected it will take under an hour for a ferry to travel from Werribee to Docklands with two stops along the way, at Point Cook and Williamstown.
The landing site at Docklands would be near the ANZ or NAB buildings.
A feasibility study into the ferry service, released earlier this year, found almost a third of workers in Point Cook and about a quarter in Altona and Williamstown travelled to the CBD for work.
More than 170,000 vehicles travel over the West Gate Bridge each day, with that number expected to hit more than 220,000 within 10 years, according to government modelling.
It is expected each ferry would be able to carry hundreds of passengers and would need to meet strict timetables to travel around ships in the Port.
