Career History
1966 – 2001 Rolands Stores PLC
A national multiple retailer, selling top of the range women and children’s clothes.
1989 – 2001 Regional Manager:
Accountable to one of three Regional Operation Directors for delivery of the entire district performance of 10 stores, having a turnover of £100M. This included being the custodian of store standards and promoting sales whilst controlling all costs. Implementing corporate strategy, together with ensuring compliance with fire, health and safety regulations in all stores.
Achievements:
? Regional sales always in the top quartile of all regions in the company whilst staying within all budgetary costs
? Opened the Folkestone flagship store to very high standards including a strong financial performance. Store was complimented on its performance measurement disciplines when it was awarded IIP within 12 months of opening.
? Paid absence and staff turnover consistently the lowest in the company largely attributed to high staff morale, which additionally contributed to high levels of customer satisfaction
? Gained Investors in People accreditation in every regional Rolands store.
? Represented Rolands as a Board Director on Kent Business Partnership
? During this period, at the request of the MD, undertook two assignments to project manage the creation of a more customer facing management structure
1983 – 1988 Store Manager
Reported to a Regional Manager with responsibility for this flagship store having sales of c. £30M p.a.
Achievements
? Improved sales in this store from a company ranking of 15th to 4th within 9 months.
? Like for like sales figures continued to improve at +30% for 3 successive years making Dagenham the busiest store in the company.
? Achieved all financial targets through detailed attention to cost control and considerable attention to labour allocation.
? Recognised as a Manager who introduced new ideas, which led to my store being used as a testing ground for not only new equipment but also introducing staff training requirements.
? Developed management teams for 4 new Inner London stores in addition to many more outside the immediate area.
1980 – 1983 Store Manager
Responsible for a major refit followed by a major recruitment drive in a predominantly low-income area.
Achievements
? Improved the working relationships and staff satisfaction within the workforce, which enabled everybody to focus on improving all aspects of customer service.
? Sales and financial performance improved significantly.
1976 –1980 Deputy Store Manager
Deputy Store Manager at two stores: Norwich and Ipswich
Norwich was the largest store in the company selling all lines
