What is FEE-HELP?
With only a limited number of Commonwealth Supported (in other words, government subsidised) places at postgraduate level, most postgraduate coursework students have to pay full-fees.
To help cover their tuition costs, students at eligible institutions can access a government loan scheme now called FEE-HELP.
Accompanied by a series of reforms in the higher education sector, a new and improved postgraduate loan scheme was issued in 2005. Whether you're a continuing students (maybe you started in 2003 or 2004?) or a 2006 hopeful, you probably have some questions about how it all works. Have a look at the following information to find out if you qualify, and where you stand, under the loan program.
Which students are eligible?
Australian citizens and holders of a permanent humanitarian visa are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance if enrolled in an approved program. In contrast with the PELS scheme of previous years, the FEE-HELP eligibility requirements (applying to those commencing their studies in 2005 or after) do not cover New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent visas other than humanitarian visas.
