Can you Jailbreak iPhone 4S/iPad 2 on iOS 5?At this time you cannot Jailbreak the iPhone 4S or iPad 2 on the official iOS 5 firmware. A bootrom exploit has not been found for either of these Apple devices meaning it cannot even be Jailbrokentethered. It is important to keep in mind, however, that both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 have the same bootrom ( iBoot-838.3). This means that if a bootrom exploits is found for the iPad 2 it will also carry over to the iPhone 4S and vice versa (See MuscleNerd’s Tweet).
When will iPhone 4S/iPad 2 Jailbreak be Released?At this time there is no set time-frame on the iPhone 4S/iPad 2 untethered Jailbreak. i0n1c did tweet, however, that the whoever is working on the iOS 5 untethered Jailbreak will most likely wait till they can support the iPhone 4S/iPad 2 before releasing the untethered Jailbreak. Another thing to keep in mind is, that the Chronic Dev-Team announced at MyGreatFest that they have 5 userland exploits which can be used to Jailbreak the iPhone 4S as well as the iPad 2 untethered. Thus, in my opinion the untethered iPhone 4S/iPad 2 Jailbreak will be released within the next few weeks.
The iPhone 4S/ipad 2 Jailbreak will most likely come in the form of JailbreakMe 4.0 (Saurik recently purchased the domain name). As I am sure you are aware JailbreakMe has been the userland Jailbreaksoftware used since the beginnings of Jailbreaking. As the Chronic Dev-Team have announced that they have 5 userland exploits it only makes sense that JailbreakMe will be revived for the 4th time in the form of JailbreakMe 4.0.
