PhD Scholarship
The St George Clinical School Study
The Project: “Proteomic study of urine to discover novel biomarkers for human prostate cancer”. This project aims to identify novel biomarkers in urine using modern proteomic techniques, which may aid in the diagnosis and help monitor progression of human prostate cancer and its response to treatment. This project may have a major impact by improving treatment of prostate cancer patients through earlier detection and improved monitoring of disease.
Scholarship: This scholarship is funded by an ARC-linkage grant and will provide support for 3 years on a full-time basis, commencing in August 2011. The scholarship stipend is $27,222 per annum.
This scholarship provides the opportunity for a PhD student to work with an excellent team of proteomics and cancer researchers.
When: The successful applicant would be expected to begin their doctoral studies in early 2011.
Where: The research will be undertaken in the St George Clinical School at the St George Hospital, University of New South Wales (UNSW); Bioanalytical Mass Spectrometry Facility (BMSF), UNSW and Minomic International Ltd, Frenchs Forest. The successful applicant must be enrolled through the St George Clinical School of UNSW.
Selection Criteria:
1. A bachelor’s degree with 1st or upper 2nd class honours or a degree in Medicine or a master’s degree in a relevant discipline (preferably Medical science or public health related).
2. Proven high level written and oral communication skills.
3. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills.
4. High level interpersonal skills, a capacity to work within a team and to build strong working relationships with industry partners.
5. Proven initiative, analytical and problem solving skills.
An applicant must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or an Australian permanent resident. All applicants must confirm that they meet the Faculty requirements for direct entry into a PhD program:
