While market attention has been focused on developments in the eurozone, in the background, the data coming out of the US has been reasonably good on the whole, increasing confidence in the durability of the economic recovery.
US real GDP growth improved to an annualised rate of 2.5% in Q3, picking up from 1.3% in Q2 and just 0.4% in Q1. This was slightly ahead of expectations, and it helps to increase confidence in the sustainability of the US recovery at a time when investors had begun to question the outlook. |
