FYI
cheers - cheerio
`cheers'
British and American people often say cheers to each other just before drinking an alcoholic drink.
I took Captain Imrie's chair, poured myself a small drink and said `Cheers!'
Cheers, Helen. Drink up.
Some British people also say cheers instead of `thank you' or `goodbye'.
`Here you are.'---`Oh, cheers. Thanks.'
`Thanks for ringing.'---`OK, cheers.'---`Bye bye.'---`Cheers.'
`cheerio'
Cheerio is a more common way of saying goodbye. It is used mainly in British English.
I'll give Brigadier Sutherland your regards. Cheerio.
